4 Tips for Storing Shoes: Keep Them Looking Like New!
Did you know that if you store your shoes properly, you can also extend their lifespan? It’s not difficult, and you can certainly manage it. To help you organize your shoes, we bring you 4 tips on how to store footwear that you can start using today!
1. Organize Your Shoes
Would piling all your shoes into a shoe cabinet save space? You’re mistaken. This method won't even save you time when you need to find a specific pair. However, if each pair has its place, you'll find your shoes more easily and quickly decide which ones to wear. We recommend sorting your shoes and throwing out the ones you no longer wear. They will only take up unnecessary space in the shoe cabinet. You don't have to throw them away; you can also sell them or donate them to people in need.
Practical tip: Want to save space in your shoe cabinet? Store shoes facing opposite directions: the left shoe with the toe pointing towards the back of the cabinet and the right shoe the other way around. This is better than piling pairs on top of each other, which can cause them to lose their original shape and material properties.
2. Designate a Storage Place
Where should you store shoes? They should be stored in a designated place, such as a hallway or closet. Nowadays, you can also store shoes in their original boxes, ideally with ventilation holes. Did you know there are also shoe hangers? If you want a neat storage solution, this is a great way to store shoes. Organizers are another good alternative.
3. Take Care of Your Shoes
If you clean your shoes regularly, you can extend their lifespan. Never store dirty and untidy shoes. How should you properly care for them? It depends on the material. For example, leather shoes can be cleaned with a cloth and brush, as can suede shoes. For rubber shoes, we recommend using soap, which won't harm the material.
4. Store Shoes in Paper
Wrapping shoes in paper? You might think we’re joking, but it’s true. If you don't want your shoes to lose their shape during storage, it’s recommended to wrap them in paper. Not newspaper or magazine paper, as these can bleed color, which wouldn't be good for light-colored shoes. For tall boots, buying a special stand or stuff them from the inside is recommended. It’s known that tall boots are prone to bending and cracking. They should also be stored with the soles facing up.
